Struggling with self-confidence?

Updated: Aug 16, 2021

For many confidence doesn't come naturally and often a lot of us may struggle with it. But what you might not know is that actually none of us are born with confidence. Confidence in itself is a practice. It may appear to come naturally to others, but it's not the case, they may have just developed the skills to work on their confidence at a young age to help them with this. Confidence helps us in many ways; relationships, friendships, work life and business to name a few. Building self-confidence will help you in all of these areas. Self-confidence allows you to gain freedom from self doubt and negativity in your life. Not only does it make you feel good but by projecting good self-confidence you will become more attractive to a partner, friendships, getting hired for that next job and it will help you feel confident in making important decisions. Easy practices that you can try to help improve your self-confidence:

  • Name Top 3 Qualities: List at least 3 favourite qualities that you like about yourself.

  • Compliment: pay yourself one by saying it out loud looking at yourself in the mirror

  • Power Posing: see link below on Ted Talk by Amy Cuddy

  • Fake it til you make it: nobody has it figured out, you will learn along the way. Remember that we're all beginners at everything we undertake, so if you aren't there yet, simply learn along the way and you will get there.

  • Dress to impress: impress yourself of course. Wear bright colours and clothing that makes you feel good in your own skin. Bright colours will improve your mood.

  • Question: Ask yourself 'what would the confident you do?' then apply the answer.

  • Personal Development: if there is an area of yourself that you want to improve research how you can do it. Learning helps us become more self-aware helping us to reach a state of self-acceptance supporting our self-confidence.

  • Positivity: create space for a positive mindset

  • Posture: stand tall and walk with confidence. Study your own body language - see TedTalk below.

Above all else believe in yourself and become your very own cheerleader - treat yourself like you would your best friend. You are worth that love and kindness!
